Ahh oops.

In that case, you could try using "v4l2-ctl --device=/dev/video0
--set-ctrl=brightness=134" and see what kind of response you get.  I would
imagine that it wouldn't hurt anything to re-set the brightness to current
value (no change) during a recording... and the output would likely be
different if the device was "unresponsive"

You would need to test this first when the device is unresponsive to see how
the output compares.
