Yes, the adapter can carry the audio. Some cards have native HDMI out, 
some come with an adapter. If they have the SPDIF input connector on the 
PCB, but only DVI out, that it will be okay to use a DVI -> HDMI 
adapter. It will come with one.

Usually before you buy the specifications on your favourite site will 
have information regarding whether it has the SPDIF connector. I have 
bought a card before and it didn't include the cable, thats hit and 
miss, unless you badger the supplier to open the box and find out there 
is no way to be sure. Its a simple pair of copper wires though so could 
probably be bodged.
