I've had great luck in recent months with an HD3200 (780G) and an HD3300
(790G) on two different boards.  With the 1.2.5 RadeonHD release, I've had
perfect playback with HDMI audio.  I'm wary about trying out the newer
GIT/SVN releases due to WAF, but I understand that there are even more
improvements.

At present, I would whole-heartedly recommend an ATi Card over nVidia for
linux.
