I've got 2 hvr-1600s in my master (and only) backend machine.  It's got
a 1.8GHz Athlon 64 (3000+ in AMD-speak) and 1G RAM, much lower spec than
your machine.  I have "vmalloc=256MB" in my grub line.  All has been
working well for quite some time.  You might also check on the
"video4linux" list, as this looks more like base tech stuff, which is
discussed over there.  Your problems are in the layers below MythTV.
