Ash,
It is likely that you have some (hopefully small!) database corruption. 
I've had similar experiences where I can see the TV Guide but when I press 
record it just fails.
Try the instructions below, I've never had to rebuild a table from 
scratch, I've always been able to find the error using mysqlchk and been 
able to repair the tables using "myisamchk", I could always get the 
automated SQL repair to work (though have had to do some detective work to 
figure out which table is REALLY corrupt when it caused mysqlchk to crash- 
in this case got directory listing, looked for alphabetic table name after 
the last one that worked)

If that doesn't work you can just remove all the channels (note your 
current channel IDs) and recreate them.  I have done this in the past but 
I can't remember the details.  If the your database is OK then this would 
probably be the next step- delete tuner and channels and recreate.
