No, no prescaling is used any more.  Everything is scaled on demand
and exiting myth and re-entering will not remove your cache.  It
remains until your themecache gets cleared, which is only when
switching themes.  Scroll through all the shows/movies/whatever
*once*, and they will remain in your cache through reboots, restarts
of the frontend, etc. until you change themes.
