[mythtv-users] OT: When is Rogers killing analog cable

That's part of the problem - each drop needs a digital receiver...and Rogers
charges per drop.

If I want a drop at my TV, and another at Myth, I'm paying for 2 "digital"
receivers. With analog, I split as much as I want without more $, since I
already have the analog Tuner in my myth box. (And of course clean QAM is
gone)

If it's digital it must be good, right! They wouldn't ever over compress the
video would they?!?

I have one of the old basic analogue cable packages from Rogers.
There's been some service changes recently. They've even gotten rid of the
Ontario Legislature Channel and moved it to a digital one only.
They also moved the preview channel to a digital only station that would
give week long previews of other channels (usually ones normally only
available with a digital package). Add in some successive price increases to
one of oldest packages people might still have intact and I'd say it adds up
to posturing in preparation of flipping the literal switch.

There was some indication on the list that US cable providers that have
switched from partially analogue to all digital have had to provide
terminals for at least local channels (sounds roughly equivalent to basic
cable requirements in Canada, I think). Anyone know if there will be
requirements to provide digital terminals to former analogue customers in
Canada for free? If so, what would that mean for those renting digital
terminals now (last I checked it was $3/month for an SD digital terminal -
more for an HD capable one)?
