[mythtv-users] Ion not recognized, no VDPAU

Happy long weekend, everyone.

I've been trying to get a Zotac Ion board up for quite a while.
Really could use some help over this last hump.

To shorten the story, I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid pointed at
JY's archive. When I play videdo, it pauses every couple seconds.
myth says this:

2009-09-06 08:33:08.358 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'vdpau' not
available.
			codec 'MPEG2' makes 'xv-blit,xshm,opengl,xlib,'
available, using 'xv-blit' instead.

I went looking for what could be different between this set-up
and my other working VDPAU computers and the most prominent item
seems to be that the video chip isn't recognized.

I have several packages with "modaliases" in the name installed,
including version 180.

I've already gone from hardy to intrepid to see if that made it
recognize the chip, and it takes nearly forever, and even hardy recognizes
all the other VDPAU-capable video chips in the house so I'm reluctant
to just try jaunty without some encouragement.

Anyone have a clue what's wrong ?
