Acronis TrueImage isn't free but can be found cheap if you look
around. Someone (Newegg?) recently had it for $10-$12. Here it is for
about 20 bucks:

It will let you create/restore partitions and do incremental backups.
You can mount an image and browse it just like any drive or restore
individual files and it has a scheduler. The GUI is Windows only but
you can image any partition. I used it a while back to image a drive
with Windows, Linux and SunOS partitions to a new drive. It comes on
(or you can create) a bootable CD that runs a linux version for
restoring to bare metal. I swear by it.
