It may not be that different. I have a few nvidia cards that output 
audio just fine on the DVI port (from SPDIF pass through). Most (all?) 
TV sets with DVI inputs do not support audio in on the DVI port. The 
three nvidia cards I have tried with DVI->HDMI adapters all support 
audio out the DVI port.
