Ok, it arrived, I'm running JYA's Nvidia-190 drivers anyway (thanks)
so time for a comparison with my (not very) old passive 9400gt. I
updated to 0.22 RC1 and vdpau seems to work better than before, the
9400gt was ok but lurching a little at Advanced 2xHW as the
qvdapautest indicates: MIXER TEMPORAL_SPATIAL (1920x1080): 50 fields/
s, right on the edge for BBCHD! Not excessively impressed with
Advanced 1xHW and general decode hic----coughs every once in a while
on any de-int.
The GT220 worked straight away, no issues.
What a difference though, much smoother video, no lurching at all (ok
so-far in a 10 minute test :-) it's good enough that I'll try a head
to head with the PS3 later, I have a DLP projector so the full effect
comes out in the evenings.
The full qvdpautest results:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6320 @ 1.86GHz

seems a bit cooler than the 9600gt was but it does have a noisy little
fan, it's quiet as these things go but still...
HDMI audio didn't work straight off, will have to look see how far
ALSA got with it.
