A few reasons, yes. One, because I can. Two, to make sure FireWire is  
still working. Three, to put less mileage on the HD-PVR.

File size doesn't really matter to me, there's very little I keep  
around for very long, and I've got plenty of storage. I believe I've  
also still got my STB locked at 720p output, so HD-PVR stuff is all  
1280x720p, while some of the channels still come off FireWire at  
1920x1080i. If I'm thinking clearly, the HD-PVR should handle stuff at  
1080i just fine these days, but finding out for sure w/my setup isn't  
very high on my priority list.
