Quiet is why I was looking at Atom in preference to Core 2 really - there
doesn't seem to be a lot of difference in price (although I've been
looking at components rather than complete systems).

I've decided that I basically just need motherboard, cpu, case, PSU, RAM
and DVD drive - I'm going to run a diskless system booting off the network
since that cuts down on heat, noise, power consumption and cost and I
can't really see a good reason for the frontend having a local disk. DVD
drive because I use my Myth frontend as a DVD player instead of having a
separate one.

This is what worries me - I've been caught out far too many times by
buying hardware that _should_ do something, only to discover that it
doesn't because of lack of driver support, buggy drivers or that support
for the hardware gets dropped later on. Quite a few of these instances
were with nVidia hardware, so I'm really not that inclined to go back...
:(
