 ATA over Ethernet is your friend:) We have two completely diskless windows PC's in the house :)

It's miles faster than iscsi, dead simple to setup and somewhere I came across a simple windows step by step process for making windows boot from it over the network. I just had to pass the machines a couple of dhcp boot options. 


It's not a 5 minute setup, but an interesting learning experience and moving the disk io/waits to the other system improved local performance which suprised me a little :)
