I've now got the irsend NOT reporting errors. I found that you need
the USE flag "transmitter" for emerging lirc in gentoo.
But no flash from the transmitter.

I also changed the parameters when starting the lirc_serial module, but nothing.

Frustrating to say the least.

I also made sure that the wires were soldered on the RS232  -- just
had to be sure.

The kernel does report that COM1 is alive and it's port and irq. So, I
believe the port is working.

Just don't know what else to do.
