I think it's pretty true that because the much lower power system
components cost more, it's hard to really save money even in the long
run.

I have an interest in saving power and not wasting electricity though.
That's really what motivates my quest for a backend that would consume
very little power, and hence my interest in this Atom server board.

For reference though my current, rather inefficient backend costs
around £8/month in electricity to run. That's £96 or around $150 a
year.

The QNAP device Ryan posted looks interesting but far too expensive
for me at $800!
