Not the drives themselves perhaps, but I once took apart a Maxtor external 
drive case and found a Seagate drive inside it.

Of course they are the same company now.

I have often wondered why some of the external USB drives are as cheap as or 
cheaper then a bare drive. I figure it's because they can put whatever they 
sweep up off the floor into the case, when they sell a bare drive it pretty 
much has to be what they say it is (at least so I hope). Often you can't tell 
if the drive inside the case is PATA ot SATA, until you open it up.
