of course you can...
Audio doesn't use different wires/pins in HDMI, it's all embedded
within the TMDS signal. DVI and HDMI carries the same electric signal.

So you could perfectly do something like:
HDMI -> DVI -> DVI -> HDMI

and get audio and video.
