The only way I could get decent image quality and smooth motion
when I was using a VIA based board was to select no deinterlacing.
I'd then find the interlaces sometime got out of sync and it
looked awful, but hitting "back" a few times would put it
right again. It was worth having to do that for the sake of
image quality.

I also found that for SD I could use ffmpeg and xv-blit on
my VIA based board. Have you tried that? Whether the VIA
boards have the grunt to do ffmpeg with Interlacedx2 I
haven't yet had time to find out.
