seems the most plausible.  Are you sure you're watching the correct values?
 The femon/mythfrontend signal "strength" values may not be what you think
they are-- that's just an indication of the electrical strength of the
connection, not the quality of it.  signal quality and bit error are
probably the values you want to be looking at.  If you have been, what
values are you seeing here?  Various tuners have differing levels of signal
sensitivity, and various decoders are more or less sensitive to errors in
the stream while rendering.  Both can play a huge role in myth.  It's not
uncommon for a STB to have cleaner decode of a degraded signal, as that's
being developed by someone with access to all the specifications, and who is
getting paid to do it :).  It's also not uncommon for a STB to have a tuner
that is more tolerant of lower signal quality.
