DVB = ATSC = QAM as far as myth-setup is concerned, but I thought you
wanted to setup just the analog portion?

To receive analog cable or antenna broadcasts, you have to define the
card as an Analog V4L Capture Card. To receive DTV (atsc) / QAM /
DVB you define the card as a DVB Card.

My setup (concerning the 800i):

2. Capture Cards:
DVB: 0 and V4L : /dev/video0
Under the dvb card, I have the timeouts set to 15000 msec, under the
v4l I have the default input set to television (which means the analog
tv tuner)

3. Video Sources:
Cable and QAM
Both sources pull listings data from SD, however QAM has been edited
using the channel editor to only contain the 5 HD channels I receive.
The CABLE source is configured at SD to provide data for all my
channels and I used the channel editor to delete channels I don't
receive on the analog input. Even if you delete the channels, the
database still gets populated with their listing data, and you can
then assign the xmlid's to qam channels

4. Input Connections:
DVB : 0 -> QAM
V4L : /dev/video0 (Television) -> Cable
V4L : /dev/video0 (Composite) -> None
V4L : /dev/video0 (SVideo) -> None
This is where you will scan for channels. You need to connect the
tuner to a video source in order to scan for channels. Your other
option is to download channels from the listing provider.

This tuner was frustrating to get working the first time, due to the
fact only very recent kernels and v4l versions support it, and you
have to do the firmware upload business. It sat on my shelf for many
months until I got a new HD television, then I had more incentive to
make it work!
