I agree that manufacturers are overoptimistic on the light output of
their CFLs. I'm a big CFL fan, I have them everywhere in my house, but
I buy one level up -- i.e., to replace a 60W incandescent, I use a CFL
specced to replace a 75W bulb. Works great for me.
