[mythtv-users] Getting TV to work has killed sound completely

MythTV Users,

I'm using Mythbuntu 8.10. Recently, I had some trouble getting Live TV
to work. However, I was happily watching videos and listening to music
with Amarok.

Then, following advice here, I got the Live TV to work. About two
minutes into testing the live TV, the sound suddenly cut out.

Then I discovered that sound was not only gone for Live TV, but for the
machine as a whole. Video (Avi, MPEG) playback is silent, Amarok is mute.

I checked to make sure sound levels were up.

Then, I ran the following command which has in the past set my computer
straight about sound cards:

asoundconf set-default-card Device

("Device" seems to be the name it assigns to my USB connected Kenwood
sound system).

But this time it didn't work.

I also ran "alsamixer", and it said:

alsamixer: function snd_mixer_load failed: Invalid argument

My sound seems seriously hosed. I can't help but notice that the sound
was destroyed once I got the Live TV working, though I can't discount
that may just be a coincidence.

I've made sure my Kenwood device plays sound on another machine, so it's
not the problem. It's Mythbuntu on some level or another.

I've run out of ideas on how to diagnose the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice.
