This particular backend is a PPC Mac Mini:
  ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]

None of my other backends (Intel boxes) seem to have this issue, though 
I'm not ready to pin this on an architecture issue (or an X issue) just 
yet. As I mentioned, mplayer plays Myth recordings just fine.
