    That is total nonsense and the sort of "tolerance of artistic
megalomania" that some of us are concerned about. No "license" is
required for the use of a DVD. What copyright law disallows is a
public performance of the work. Media companies are intentionally
confusing the issue, making people think that media companies have
rights they don't have with a "license" that isn't even needed.

    Public performance is a right reserved to the author. This is 
why a high school with a bunch of copies of "Street Car Named Desire"
need to cough up a big wad of cash to put on that play.
