It's quite possible that the problem is not related to Myth
(configuration-/build-/hardware-specific failures***), but before we can
say so, we would need a good backtrace. See

And, once you figure out how to install the Ubuntu packages and get the
good backtrace--using the same gdb commands mentioned in Section 22.2 of
the HOWTO, please fill in that section of the page... :) Here's

***The only time I've ever had issues with mythbackend crashing was due
to a chipset overheating and causing data corruption in memory. I've
since replaced the expensive motherboard that had a "high-performance"
chipset with a cheap motherboard that has a "basic" chipset and the
system is rock-solid stable, again.
