wow, I just saw the lircd-0.8.4a all over those entries... strange
when I do this:

myth at fe1:~$ which lircd
/usr/local/sbin/lircd
myth at fe1:~$ /usr/local/sbin/lircd -v
lircd 0.8.5

must be a lircd 0.8.4a somewhere...
