I read the spec - and I see where it says that the maximum computer
display is 1024x768, but that it's video capability goes up to 720p
and 1080i. To be honest, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get at
least a 1280x720 display in there - but I am treading a little outside
of my experience, here.

To get things working with my LG, I used the gtf command in a
terminal. With your TV hooked up, you can pass in the desired x, y,
and refresh values, and it will return a modeline you can put into
your xorg.conf.
