What you can do to rectify this without a restart of the backend is to
go into your recordings and switch to the LiveTV group. Delete the
currently recording show and this will release the tuner.

Having said this, I also find this frustrating and with very low WAF.
My wife uses LiveTV all the time. It is habbit and I can not see it
ever changing unfortunately and it is also very easy for her to just
switch live TV on for the kids whne they are allowed to watch the
tele.

It would be good if the backend detected a loss of communication with
the frontend and cancelled any further livetv recordings.
