[mythtv-users] Gmane?

Looking at the archives I see that this has come up several years ago, 
but there hasn't been recent discussion on this.  (Yes, I've read every 
post on the archives that comes up in a search.)

Are there any objections to contacting the gmane admins and having them 
lift the ban on mythtv-users?  This list is becoming very difficult to 
manage via email and I'd rather not create a gmail account just to act 
as another mail archive (plus, I'd rather have my choice of mail readers).

It seems like spam was a concern the last time around?  Why not just set 
up the list as unidirectional so that nobody can post via gmane? 
Likewise, gmane can hide poster's email addresses to cut down on spam.

Do objections still exist, or is this just a matter of history?
