As a reference point I have 2 lower end 8600GS cards with only 256MB.. I am doing
advanced 1x on One HD without an issue. Even footy (AFL) looks good.. F1 looks
even better (i think they have better cameras), and the water shots from FINA
have been fantastic too.  I tried 2X but it looked weird and shakey.... but my
screens are both 50HZ only so I think this is more related to the screen rather
than the card. I get a little bit of tracing still with the footy, but I think
that is the LCD screens refresh rate rather than the de-interlacing method...
(can't wait for AMOLED to be released and then become affordable)
