The image constraint token is *only* a component of HD-DVD and Blu ray
media (with a voluntary decision by the content providers not to
implement it yet). It is also not a component of the movie file, it
is part of the disk's copy protection.

Hi Robert et al

While the ICT is a media component it seems to me that it is a digital component that is a part of the recording and not the disc
itself. If it is the disc and outside the digital content recording, then in what way is it the disc, particularly DVD's?

It has been suggested to me by a well known TV manufacturer that the ICT / affected media extends to broadcast signals including
some satellite content and in time will also apply to our Terrestrial Freeview service.

With reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_Constraint_Token it seems a digital chain exists for all compliant equipment I
presume to rubber stamp the tokens as they pass, it would seem the whole chain length, and back again, otherwise how would the
source know whether to send up SD or HD content?

While I am no expert on this it would seem that an effected stream may be appropriately seen as a source, I do not see a digital
token going back up to the satellite chain and beyond for these purposes.

This is easy to appreciate in the case of a compliant equipment source that is DVD or Bluray. As I understand it extends beyond
these it seems to me that if it can be broadcast as satellite then it can be captured as "source" content, including all the digital
protections.
