Haven't read the thread, but--just in case it applies--Myth does /not/ 
use the system libmpeg2.  It has its own (tested, (mostly)working, 
properly-configured) version as libmythmpeg2.

That said, though, libmpeg2 decoding almost always worse than ffmpeg 
decoding for Myth (and may break a lot of things like subtitles, etc), 
so chances are you should switch your profile to use ffmpeg.
