I've fixed my problem straight after posting ... I've always thought 
this forum is fantastic :)

Changing TV Playback from CPU+ to CPU++ fixed this problem (and on 
looking into it it refers to ffmpeg for playback codecs rather than the 
one that appears to not be available above).

Logs shows following now ...

VideoOutputXv: XVideo Adaptor Name: 'NV17 Video Texture'

Does anyone know if there is anything detailed info about this setup page?
