[mythtv-users] New Myth system, and no audio or static - help requested

As mythtv & root, a sound card does show up. No sounds when I play any
wav file;
play "sample".wav, though it goes through the motions of playing the
sound clip
Using alsamixer, both as root & mythtv, all sounds are at maximum out.
