XvMC works quite well with my 945GM chipset mythbox. But note:

xvmc only supports up to PAL size (720x546 or whatever that is).

AND: xvmc capabilities have been disabled in the two latest drivers: 
2.6.0 and 2.6.1 while some code re-writing goes on. I am running 2.5.2 iirc.

Playback of 720p digital tv (OTA) is brillian with a COre 2 Duo at 2.4G 
using the945GM....I have audio problems at present, whose genesis is 
unknown. Started with munging the box by installing an nvidia binary 
driver, but persist despite nuking and re-installing...

THe GMA3100 chipset should do the job for you. You willlikely need to 
install an xorg.conf file to get things correctly set.
