[mythtv-users] Start MythTV on Display I want (and if not there, next one I want)

John said to try: Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP,TV"
My first attempt at this was unsuccessful. Then I saw that display
modes were defined the Screen sections so I modified screen0 to have
two metamodes, one for the DFP and one for TV-0. I modified the
existing "UseDisplayDevice" in the device section to be "DFP, TV-0".
That didn't work. It locked the two displays together, caused a
low-res mode, power cycle thing, which breaks up GMA so I quit that
train. If you can please tell me what I am doing wrong I will try
again.

Nick:
1) That is the Nvidia readme I have been using, which I know to be
both the most recent and out of date.
2) You are correct that xwininfo can distinguish which display is
active. A script seems like a good idea at this point. I can program
PHP and C but have not done any conditional bash scripts (is that even
the right way say it?). Could you be so kind as to give me some
guidance here. It took me about an hour even to find out where
mythfrontend might start. I am not even sure of that. I think it
starts from a file in my home directory
".conf/autostart/mythtv.desktop" that redirects to
"/usr/share/applications/myth.desktop" which is a script with a line
"Exec=mythfrontend --service" among others. Is this the file I would
modify to add the script "Set DISPLAY=:1" if your script gives
"-geometry 1280x1024+0+0" ? If so, what is the conditional code to
do this?

Ma Suggested: "Why don't you assign one button on the remote to start mythtv on
DISPLAY=:0.0 and an another button to start it on DISPLAY=:1.0 ?"
Can you give some guidance on this? All I know how to do with the
remote is assign keyboard keys to buttons.

Thanks everyone for the help. I truly appreciate it. You have given
me 3 potential solutions. Now I need to turn one into reality.

PS. In playing around I noticed something interesting about my
present setup. When the projector is off I get the main desktop on
LCD and the secondary desktop on the TV. When I turn on the
projector, the main desktop goes there and the LCD goes off. That
explains how I can have 3 devices on a dual output card: only two
outputs are active at one time. This is not a problem as I would
never use the LCD when the projector is on.

Allen
