That setting should point to the actual directory (ie
/var/lib/mythtv/video_covers), at least that is how mine is set up.

I don't have subdirectories in my video_covers folder. You can just put all
of the images in the top folder. Also use 'chmod -R 777' on the covers
directory to change the permissions recursively on the files and subfolders.
The only other thing I can think of at this point is to make sure that the
specific movie in mythweb knows where its thumbnail is. If you only have a
few in there, it probably best to clear out that folder 1st and make a clean
start. I usually add cover images straight from mythweb. If you have an
image already, you can click on the edit button next to the movie in
mythweb. Then at the bottom you can click browse next to the 'cover image'
setting. This will upload the image you select and put it in the
video_covers folder for you. Even better though is to use the imdb button
next to video. Let if find you movie and it will download the cover image
from imdb and put it in the folder for you. That is why mythweb needed write
permissions on that folder. I generally just use the imdb cover images
unless they are particularly bad, then I will find and download a better
one. Then I use the edit button to upload the one I prefer. You can do some
of this straight from the frontend in the video manager under settings. But
it is generally easier to do with a mouse and keyboard from mythweb.
