[mythtv-users] Not sure how to accomplish this--any tips?

My current myth box is an all-in-one frontend/backend STB-style setup.
I will be moving to separate frontends and backends shortly.  Here is some functionality I want to set up:

1. I want to use my HP Mini as basically the "control" for the backend (and certain frontend tasks) like queuing up torrents.  Is RDP simply the best way to go about this or are there other options?
2. I'm interested in setting up multiple zones for music, for example, a set of speakers in the living room, some wireless speakers outside for when I have a barbecue, etc.  I want to use either the frontend (mythstream etc.) or the "control" laptop to select what's playing and where.  Anyone heard of a setup like this?  Can you give me some links ot get started?
