I thought about transcoding as well. But unfortunately, my wife often
wants to watch shows just as their halfway done recording, or a few
minutes after their done recording. A bunch of her shows are on CBS. I
thought perhaps upgrading my nvidia driver might help, since the one
I'm currently using is from June 2007. Trying to leap up to a driver
release from near the end of 2008 had disasterous consequences, so I
haven't been able to test if updating the driver would help yet. I'll
post back if I get anything positive.
