You don't really need to. Switching supplies are fairly efficient and
don't consume much under no-load conditions.  My laptop supply draws less
than 1 watt when it's not connected to my laptop. Ditto my cell charger.

Mine's about 3 watts. Maybe it'd be lower if I didn't have WOL enabled?
