I agree that this is concerning. However I think it is important to clarify
that they aren't petitioning for the wholesale disabling of analog outputs
(yet). They want to be able to disable them for specific movies that are
released through video-on-demand, etc prior to DVD. They would only be
disabling component outputs for those movies before the movies are released
on Blu-ray and DVD. That in an of itself isn't that concerning but the
concern is that this is just a foot in the door tactic to larger scale, more
intrusive disabling of analog outputs. However, I am sure that when that
happens the government will give us coupons for some sort of HDMI to
component converter box ;-).
