Oh, absolutely. I meant the above sentence with an implicit ". . . or
throw more hardware at it," which the original poster disclaimed as a
possibility. But until the problem's solved--one way or another--I'd
certainly disable a tuner.

(Caveat: Since the original poster is in the UK he's probably using
multirec. Since I have never used multirec I have no idea whether it's
possible to selectively activate the virtual tuners a single real
tuner provides.)
