Intel has announced hardware acceleration for their GPU in a similar
way than VDPAU with nvidia chipset works, it's called VAAPI.

Didn't say it wasn't possible. I said don't get your hope high. Intel
announced VAAPI architecture a while ago now. Yet to see anything
concrete happening yet.

The GMA950 is a crappy GPU and never performed well for the most basic tasks.

Intel is going to be more interested in getting the drivers working
for their high-end GPU like the X4000 series than the obsolete
GMA950...

I'd be more than surprised if hardware acceleration ever came for the
GMA950, and if it does won't be this year.

I'd love to be proven wrong.

Good news is when VAAPI finally works, it will quickly become
available in myth as myth used ffmpeg decoder which supports vaapi.
