And as of this moment thanks to your efforts, I now can do this in
MythTV. I went back over the last set of logs for the backend and
noticed a little soemthing:

2009-04-22 10:07:59.955 TVRec(7) Error: Problem finding starting
channel, setting to default of '3'.
2009-04-22 10:08:00.027 ChannelBase(7) Error: InitializeInputs():
Could not get inputs for the capturecard.
Perhaps you have forgotten to bind video
			sources to your card's inputs?
ERROR: no valid capture cards are defined in the database.
Perhaps you should read the installation instructions?
mythtv+bind video sources to card inputs
Well for me reading this instructions did diddles, but googling
"mythtv+bind video sources to card inputs" led to a few results, mostly
useless but got me thinking about the configuration and I went back in
to mythtvsetup and dug around until I found the missed configurations
and set them.

I've gone over this one, it was the one that I followed and set a root
password for mysql, I have noticed that on howto's that step is ignored.

I'm going to go looking for those files. After all this work, I don't
want to have to do it over for quite some time.
Is there a log file for mythfrontend? I've seen mention of it but a:
Mike at P-733-Lin:~> locate mythfrontend.log
Mike at P-733-Lin:~>

  Produces that.

Again many thanks for the help. Now to take a day or two break and
then see if I can get the remote to work under SuSE11.1, without having
to switch from the pae kernel to the default kernel.
