i HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ONE BACKEND. dISABLING GLX IN XORG.CONF SORTED
THAT OUT. eVEN ON MUCH MORE RECEND HARDWARE i HAD SOME SLIGHT STUTTERING
(MORE OF A (EXCUSE CAPS :-) ) slight freeze as the osd fades out.
Disabling glx sorted that as well.
