Right. I find that mp4/h.264 seems to be fine. I haven't tried other
formats yet.

I believe my problem is not nuvexport or ffmpeg, but xvidcore. In fact,
transcode also produces videos with corruption. For some reason the
xvid list recommended asking about this here. I guess I just wanted to
see if others had had this issue too, not to complain about nuvexport.

I would try with mencoder, but nuvexport doesn't like my mencoder for
some reason.

On another topic, I patched nuvexport a while back to allow cropping on
the left and right to exceed 5%. Several over-the-air HD stations
sometimes broadcast SD-quality widescreen presentations by using both
sidebars and letterbox inside an HD stream. Dunno why they do this, but
they do. Also, occasionally I'll get a 4:3 program on my HD PBS station
that requires me to trim the sidebars. You might want to tweak the
official nuvexport source to allow for this kind of cropping. Otherwise
even if I specified cropping in the nuvexportrc file or on the command
line, it made it 5%. I modified line 178 of generic.pm to do this.
