I just lost every file on my file server (my tax records, business
records, receipts, ...) without a backup.  To me, that was a minor
hassle.  If I were to lose my 4+ years of MythTV recording history, I
would see that as the end of the world.

Your choice, but now you know your status when it comes time for the
upgrade.
