FWIW I see the same thing using Mandriva. I think it's a fairly standard thing 
to do with packages such as Mythtv which have sections which can be run as 
daemons. The thing you have to watch is to make sure that the resulting mythtv 
user has the same UID and GID on all your boxes, which sadly Mandriva didn't do. 
Easy fix: just create them as a standard user/group (with manually assigned 
UID/GID) before installing the package. This has the side-effect that the $HOME 
is on /home rather than some weird subdirectory in /var or someplace else.
