That did the trick.  I just wish it would be reported that way,
instead of an audio buffer error.  That threw me for a spin, chasing
my own tail, for weeks.

For anyone else who reads this thread, I had to use mythtranscode to
fix my seektable, re-running mythcommflag didn't work.
